Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo will become the epicenter for business advocacy in Alberta in 2023.
The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce has been successful in its bid to host the 2023 Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) Convention and Policy Plenary.
“We’re excited for this unique opportunity to showcase the dynamic nature of our region’s business community,”
says Kristi Hines, Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Board Chair.
This convention serves as an annual gathering for a federation of more than 120 community Chambers across Alberta, who collectively represent over 24,000 local businesses province wide. Representatives from each Chamber will travel to the region with the goal of improving the interests of all Alberta businesses by developing policy and advocacy solutions to be brought to the provincial and federal governments.
“Our mandate of advocacy and driving extraordinary results for businesses extends beyond our region’s borders,”
says Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dianna de Sousa. “We look forward to putting our signature on robust new policy that will benefit our membership for years to come.”
The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce’s successful bid was achieved with the invaluable support from the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism (FMWBEDT) team. The convention will generate an estimated $210,000 in economic impact for our region.
“Attracting large-scale events, like the ACC Convention, boosts local spending in restaurants, retail businesses, activities, and hotels,”
says Terri Nielsen, Economic Development Officer with FMWBEDT. “Hosting Chamber leaders and business professionals from across the province will allow us to showcase our amazing region–and we can’t wait to welcome them here.”
The last ACC Convention and Policy Plenary was held in Camrose in 2019. A live gathering of regional chambers has been deferred until 2022, when Lethbridge will host the conference.
