    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Holiday Shop Local Passport Program Tracked over $665,000 spent at Local Businesses through four years!
Fort McMurray, AB January 10th, 2019: The Fort McMurray Chamber is ecstatic to announce that the Shop Local Passport program has tracked more than $665,000 spent through the program since its inception four years ago.

The Passport program encourages residents to shop locally during the holiday season for a chance to win McMurray Money prizes. McMurray Money is a gift card which is redeemable at participating local businesses. Individuals can also purchase McMurray Money from the Chamber as gifts which provide the receiver with an opportunity to choose which local business they wish to redeem the certificate.

The response for this program has been phenomenal. The first year the program was developed it tracked $43,000 spent at the 17 participating businesses during the four-week period. 2016 saw $55,000 tracked through the program with a jump to $117,100 in 2017! This program has continued to grow and this year, it had 31 participating businesses with over $449,000 tracked through the eight weeks of the program.

The Chamber would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the businesses that participated in this program as well as all of the individuals that helped to champion the program by shopping locally and encouraging their friends, families and colleagues to do the same. Thank you all for making this program such a success! We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for the Shop Local Passport Program.
